Reflecting Glenfiddich: A selection of works from the Glenfiddich Artists in Residence collection
25 January – 26 February 2011

Once known as aqua vitae or ‘the water of life’, whisky has been in the Grant family for hundreds of years. Synonymous with its homeland Scotland, 31 bottles of whisky were sold overseas every second in 2005! Not only this, but last year saw a marked increase in whisky exports.
“The proper drinking of Scotch whisky is more than indulgence: it is a toast to civilization, a tribute to the continuity of culture, a manifesto of man’s determination to use the resources of nature to refresh mind and body and enjoy to the full the senses with which he has been endowed.” – David Daiches (Scottish Literary historian, critic and writer)
Winner of the IWSC Distillers of the Year, one of the most prestigious awards in the drinks industry, Glenfiddich in Scotland’s world-famous Highlands is not only a scene of breathtaking beauty but holds a tale of dedication and determination right from the start.
Glenfiddich has struck a perfect balance between tradition and the modern age, retaining old and proven distilling techniques whilst encouraging top-quality contemporary art work through the Glenfiddich Artists in Residence programme. At a time when the arts are suffering huge funding cuts, the programme allows artists to live at the distillery for three months, leaving at least one new piece to join the collection. Now in its ninth year, the programme is widely recognised for providing artists with an original setting in which to work and for producing a modern image of Scotland for the 21st century.
For the first time, an exhibition of selected works is being shown outside Scotland at The Fleming Collection. Until 26th February a collection of their international artists’ work is on display on Berkley Street where “The Fleming Collection has become an important centre for promoting Scottish cultural life”.
Entry is free and the exhibition ends on February 26th. Make sure you don’t miss out on this unique opportunity!
