With the weather warming up, Chris has finally been able to get out on his road bike for his latest Olympic test! Find out how he got on…..

‘At last – we can embrace some better weather in London! Last weekend, I was able to finally reschedule my road biking. I have to be honest, this was quite a simple task for me due to my regular triathlon training but nevertheless I had to wrap up warm and get some miles in the legs. My wife did not seem very happy when I asked her to follow me in the car on my 50 mile ride (somewhat shorter than the real Olympic event that will cover nearly 250km) to get some “action” shots, so apologies for the posed photo prior to my ride. I had a great ride and managed to take in some of the great countryside in and around Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire and I felt as though I had deserved the Sunday roast that followed.’
‘In London this Summer the road biking will start in The Mall and then progress into the Surrey countryside, taking in the Box Hill loop on numerous occasions to test the riders’ legs. The events will culminate once again in The Mall which will prove to be a spectacular backdrop to the finale. Road biking as a sport also includes the time trial event (to which I am more accustomed, with my triathlon and Ironman background) which is a real test of individual endurance. Riders set off at intervals and race against the clock. There are strict rules about drafting to ensure that the results reflect individual prowess and having experienced numerous time trials in the past, it is very much an eye balls out race and definitely not for the fainthearted!’
