Flemings has recently received confirmation that The Queen herself accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh will not only open the Olympic Games but now the Paralympic Games as well. The Queen will officially announce the opening of the games with a simple ‘I declare open the London 2012 Olympic / Paralympic Games’, before all the action and excitement can truly begin.
The LOCOG (London Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games) Chair, Seb Coe commented, ‘The Paralympic Games will undoubtedly be a time of extraordinary pride for our nation, and it is fitting that Her Majesty will declare us underway.’
This will be the first time that The Queen has opened the Paralympic Games, even though she has opened the Olympic Games before. The Montreal Olympic Games were opened by The Queen in 1976 and in 1956 The Duke of Edinburgh opened the Melbourne Olympic Games on behalf of The Queen.
Clearly this summer will be full of firsts for Britain providing plenty to celebrate. We just can’t wait for the countdown to be over! Be sure to visit next month, for another update as we inch ever closer to the real event…
