Today, Flemings’ brings you your weekly dose of Olympic news from Chris’ epic challenge from somewhere slightly different… the U.S. of A.

As I am in New York this week, I thought it only appropriate to try a very American sport. At 6 foot 7, I should be very good at basketball, but it is still surprisingly difficult to get high enough above the basket to dunk the ball. Trust me, the pros make it look easy, but it is far from it. I definitely suffer from “white men can’t jump” syndrome. I cannot supply a photo today due to not having the right lead for my camera, but I will post it on Tuesday when I am back in the UK.
The original game of basketball used peach baskets for goals but over the years it has grown into one of the most popular sports in the World. It is hard to find a yard here in NY that doesn’t have a basketball net. The first representation at the Olympics was in 1936, although professional players were not allowed to compete until Barcelona ’92. This summer, the venue will be in North Greenwich and some 300 basketballs are expected to be used.
