This week, Chris tests out a sport which really tests the strength and ability of athletes as it requires not one but three rigorous disciplines….
Triathlon is my specialist subject having been a triathlete myself for 11 years. There are numerous distances available to triathletes, but Olympic distance is the most well known and comprises of a 1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10km run.
Triathlon takes huge dedication and the professional athletes will regularly train over 30 hours per week having to juggle three different disciplines, each requiring technical ability and endurance. Britain have great medal hopes in both the ladies’ and men’s events. The Brownlee brothers continue to dominate the World scene in the men’s race and Helen Jenkins is a hot favourite for the women’s title. Should be a fantastic spectacle.
Tickets are not required for about 90% of the Triathlon route as the race takes place in Hyde Park - the perfect event for those who have not been lucky enough to secure Olympic tickets.
To get from Mayfair and Flemings to Hyde Park, simply take a relaxing walk through Green Park, hop across the road and you have arrived!
