We put together an insightful day to show the attendees the range of different roles in hospitality and the exciting career prospects that come with the industry. From cocktail mixologist Monika, to Head Housekeeper Lina, to Pastry Chef Aggie, the Flemings team put together talks, demonstrations and games to show just what you can achieve in their line of work.
Flemings’ General Manager, Oliver Brown, started the day off with an introductory talk about Flemings and the hotel industry, explaining that no matter what training or experience you have there will be something for you in hospitality, with such a variety of jobs.
Our Head Housekeeper, Lina, has worked her way up from a room attendant to senior management. She told attendees how working in housekeeping is very dynamic – the physical side keeps you fit, saving you money on a gym membership! After the talk, Lina arranged a hunt around one of Flemings’ apartments. Whether a stray sock or a left behind lipstick, every corner of every room must be checked thoroughly to make sure it’s immaculate for the next guest’s arrival.
Aggie, our amazingly talented pastry chef, spends her days creating delicious, melt-in-the-mouth petit fours and cakes for our afternoon tea. She talked through the different layers of afternoon tea, explaining how it’s all put together. From the different fillings in the finger sandwiches, her demonstration moved on to the freshly made scones and Victoria sponge and then on to the final tier (and probably the best), petit fours. Aggie explained that whilst it’s hard work and can be long hours, it’s a really fun area to work in which is always changing . Oodles of creativity is a must have!
Speaking of creativity… Next up, in the Cocktail Bar our mixologist Monika gave attendees a crash course in cocktail making. Explaining the science behind her tasty concoctions as well as the aesthetics, she gave some insider tips into the practical side of mixing cocktails. A lucky few got to try their hand and perfected their shaking technique!
