There’s nothing like a good old Christmas movie to get you in the festive mood.
The wind, the rain, the snow (if you’re lucky) are going nuts outside. You, on the other hand, are smugly snuggled in your best PJs on the sofa with some mulled wine and a assortment of edible treats, with the Christmas tree glowing in the corner. Switch on your favourite Christmas film et voila: Merry Christmas to you.
Miracle on 34th Street
Cocoon yourself in the holiday spirit and witness how dreams come true when you really believe. The festive fantasy makes you feel like a child again, and for many is an absolute must. You could even go as far as to say that Christmas wouldn’t be complete without it.
This movie is now ten years old. Can you believe it? That means we’ve watched it a total of ten times, if not twenty. An annual favourite which is packed full of feel good factor and classic Curtis humour, you love each character for just being them, and are behind them every step of the way. It’s truly, Britishly heart-warming from start to finish. And embrace the tears – they always make an early appearance during the airport montage in the opening credits.
A cracker of a Christmas movie which has the whole family in hoots. It’s laugh-out-loud funny, it never gets old, and it brings people together. It’s everything you could want in a funny, feel good Christmas movie – a charming, slapstick adventure of a hilarious oversized elf.
One of the highest box office successes of all time, Home Along is a classic Christmas comedy. It captures the imagination of many children’s dream to be left home alone and rule the roost. Add in more slapstick than Laurel and Hardy (ok, maybe not quite that much) and you’ve got yourself a raucous living room incorporating the young to the old.
It’s a Wonderful Life
Possibly the best Christmas film of all time, this festive staple is a classic heart-warmer. It’s had 67 years to establish itself as the grandad of all Christmas movies, and remains a timeless favourite for many whilst reminding us of the important things in life.
