‘Trooping of the Colours’ is a traditional and famous military march carried out by the troops from the Household Division, for the celebration of the Queens official birthday. Consequently the parade is otherwise known as the ‘Queen’s Birthday Parade’.
This annual event backdates approximately to the early 17th century whereby the soldiers originally carried out a march with their trooping colours between each of the soldier’s ranks, enabling the soldiers to recognise their regiments’ colours.
Trooping the Colour 2014 takes place on the Horse Guards Parade, St James’s Park. The Queen leads the troops down the Mall to Buckingham Palace where she will salute, and guns are fired in Green Park and at the Tower of London.
The Queen will then join the rest of the Royal Family on the balcony where a spectacular flyover by the Royal Air Force will commence to mark the end of the event.
