If you are a cycling fan then you must not miss the Prudential RideLondon 2014. This annual two-day festival of cycling will take place on Saturday 9th August and Sunday 10th August 2014. This event was first developed by Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, creating a true legacy to the 2012 Olympic Games. There are six main cycling events throughout this festival with every audience catered for.
On Saturday the ‘Free Cycle’ is a great family day event encouraging the public to grab their bikes and enjoy riding a 10-mile traffic-free route through central London. Once the evening approaches you can get ready for the exciting women’s and youth ‘Grand Prix’ event in St James’s Park, featuring the likes of Laura Trott and Hannah Barnes along with many young potential Olympians.
Early on Sunday the ‘Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100’ will begin at 6am from the Olympic Park, this race will see members of the public embark on a 100 mile bike ride through Surrey, finally ending on The Mall. Many who take part in this race will be raising money for charity so it would be great if spectators came along and encouraged the riders. Also during Sunday morning we will see the ‘Handcycle Classic’, this is a fantastic event whereby you will see some of the best Paralympic cyclists racing for the title.
Keen cycling fans can cheer their cycling heroes in the ‘Classic’ event from 1pm. This race will see 150 of the world’s top cyclists, from 25 teams, leave the Olympic Stadium to commence on their 200km route.
Green Park is an official Festival Zone during the PrudentialRide London. A wide range of free bike-based activities will entertain spectators and riders alike. There will also be music and performances along the cycling routes with music zones, music bikes, bands on bikes, stilt bicycles, Penny Farthings, stagecoaches and rickshaws.
This will be a great community event encouraging people to get on their bikes and keep fit. If you want to enjoy the entire weekend of the PrudentialRide London we are a family friendly 4* hotel in Mayfair and would love to see you, check out our family rooms here.
