Notting Hill Carnival is one of the most famous carnivals in the world. The carnival celebrates the Caribbean culture with colourful parades, fantastic music, live steel bands and wonderful street foods. Notting Hill Carnival first started in 1964 and has developed year on year becoming the largest street festival in Europe.
Notting Hill Carnival dates, times and route:
Notting Hill Carnival 2014 takes place on Sunday 24th and Monday 25th August, with the carnival procession starting at approximately 9am on both days. The route starts on Great Western Road and finishes on Ladbroke Grove. When the parade is finished the party does not stop, now is time for the several after parties, fun and dancing!
Sunday is aimed at families; it attracts smaller crowds and has a variety of children friendly floats. There are also special competitions and activities for children to take part in, as well as educational events throughout the day teaching children about the afro-Caribbean culture and history.
The Monday parade is then aimed at adults. Crowds here can become very large, but as long as you are safe and careful, a great day will be had. Enjoy the bright colours, energetic atmosphere, loud traditional music and dancing galore.
If you are looking for hotels near Notting Hill then Flemings Mayfair is a 4* boutique hotel, far enough to avoid the very loud music and bustle that a Notting Hill hotel may be affected by, but close enough to only be a short journey home once you are tired. Plus we currently have a special rate of £155 available; this rate is allocated on a first come first serve basis so book your room before they all go!
We hope you have a great time at Notting Hill Carnival 2014!
