Tower Bridge London
Tower Bridge is one of the great London landmarks such as Buckingham Palace and Big Ben. The bridge design was born from the need of tall-masted ships to access the port facilities upstream from the bridge. The final design allowed both foot and motorized traffic from one bank of the Thames to the other when lowered and the passage of river traffic when raised. Construction on the bridge started in 1886 and 8 years and thousands of tons of steel and concrete later the bridge was completed. The Prince and Princess of Wales officially opened the bridge on 30 June 1894.
From 2008 to 2012 the bridge underwent a £4 million refurbishment and today visitors to Tower Bridge will enjoy the freshly painted blue and white design.
Tower Bridge is easily reached from Flemings Mayfair Hotel, using the London road network or by using the Jubilee Line from Green Park to London Bridge tube station.
