Kerth did it last night! His dessert may not have reached first place but it received much praise from the judges and Kerth will get to cook in the Banquet! We asked him 5 questions this morning, ahead of the big finale tonight...
What does going to the Banquet represent for you?
It means everything! It is a culinary goal and an aspiration that I’d had for 15 years! I worked hard for it and I am so glad I got to where I am now. Self-belief is so important.
What was the first thing that crossed your mind when you found out you had made it to the final day?
My immediate reaction was “Woooooow, yesssss!”. Then, my brain immediately started thinking of a new pre-dessert that would sit well alongside the other dishes chosen for the Banquet!
Looking back on the competition, is there any dish that you are particularly proud of?
I have always been most proud of my fish course and dessert. Right from the start, these two dishes were the ones I thought would see me through to the Banquet, and they nearly did!
What was the highlight of the competition for you?
It was an amazing experience all round, but one of the highlights was when I found out that I had won for London & the South East. And then of course, the icing on the cake was finding out that I succeeded in making it to the banquet too, in what was a very tough competition.
What’s next for you and your team?
We are about to launch our Ormer at Home takeaway menu, starting on the 27th May! You will be able to enjoy a slice of Ormer at home via Supper London and Deliveroo. We will also offer a collection service from the restaurant directly.
And of course, our Tasting Menu gift vouchers are still available to purchase at a discounted price for the time being, and include all of my dishes from the Great British Menu! More information here >>
